The Role of the Larimer County Board of Commissioners

There are three major functions of the Commissioners:

Executive  •  Legislative  •  Judicial

In the Executive role…

A Commissioner must set policy, create short-term and long-term strategic planning for the organization and approve the annual budget.  The County Commissioners are also responsible for hiring the County Manager and the County Attorney.

In the Legislative role…

When regulation and land use code are adopted, it is essential that the county commissioners be able to address concerns without being overburdensome.  Regulation and land use code must be applied throughout the county equally.

In the Judicial role…

The County Commissioners act in a quasi-judicial role in land use decisions.
